Module 9

In chapter 8 they mention how the media has a very big influence on elections. The media will always be the one that shapes the opinion of the people. Many of the times we see or read articles, television, and newspapers; with an idea that we have already heard about. In result we are going to look for answers but sometimes what the media does is just confuse us. Though what does this have to do with the 2020 elections? A few days ago we had the elections here in the United States, they were very stressful days for everyone. The 2020 elections were influenced by the media. An example of this is how President Donald Trump after the elections began to tweet that the elections were stolen from him. As a result of this, many Trump supporters took to the streets to protest. President Donald Trump has no evidence on this and used Twitter to deliver a message to people without foundations. Also, the presidential candidates used social media to give messages to people before the elections for that reason. It’s why the media is so important for the 2020 elections.

Another point I would like to mention in Chapter 8 is "voter fraud." In this chapter, it is mentioned how this happened in 2000 and 2004. Republicans were charged with fraud in at least five states. Many people think that fraud has always existed on a small scale and that it is not such a serious problem. On the other hand, other people think that this problem is very significant. The reason this point is important for the election is because Donald J. Trump is saying that the Democrats cheated. He is saying that by no means could the Democratic candidate win the election. The Republican candidate also mentioned that it was a fraud because they counted the ballots that arrived in the mail, and he wanted the votes to stop counting. Trump demanded that votes coming after the elections should not be counted. These elections left a lot to talk about, and so far President Donald J. Trump has not accepted his defeat.

Chapter 9 describes how political campaigns have changed over time. It is mentioned that nowadays political campaigns are organized on the Web. It is also mentioned that if a candidate wants to be successful in political campaigns he has to be able to raise funds for the ford, get media coverage, produce and pay for political ads, schedule the candidate's time effectively with constituent groups and potential supporters, convey the candidate's position on the issues, conduct research on the opposite candidate, and get the voters to go to the polls. This has to do with the 2020 elections because we see all this in the two candidates. I would like to state one thing that was important to me, Donald J. Trump in a couple of tweets is inviting his followers to not vote through the mail.

The last thing that I would like to mention about this chapter is the different types of election. The general election is a regularly scheduled election held in even-numbered years on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. In this type of election, the voters decide who will be the US. president, vice president, senators, and representatives in congress. A special election is held at the state or local level when the voters must decide an issue before the next general election or when vacancies occur because of death or resignation. I think that it’s important to know the difference between these two.

I would like to comment on the election of 2020. This was a long week for everyone, waiting for the results, hearing all the comments (negative & positive) that people have, and also experiencing all the protests going on around the US. I don’t know what it's going to happen if President Trump does not accept that he lost, but I’m really worried.
